Deeksha Rahanoo - Engineering Management (India)
Why did you choose to complete an Internship?
I feel that attending an internship is a great way to know the Australian working environment, new opportunities, building networks and most prominently enhancing your core study skills. I selected internship rather than subjects because I was curious to see how I would be able to apply my engineering management knowledge to a workplace.
What have you learned the most during your internship?
Australian Internships has arranged my internship for academic credit. This internship helped me in upgrading my verbal as well as written communication skills most. Also, I gained the confidence of making a certain contribution to the company’s operational processes where apart from learning high-level business processes, I enhanced my problem-solving and critical evaluation skills. Olam Group is already in an advanced phase of using Business Intelligence in the realm of AI. During my work, BI has helped me to know, track and get data about my daily, weekly and monthly activities ultimately improving my work efficiency, depicting problem areas and making way for improvement.
What advice would you give future interns regarding virtual internships?
I would like to say that joining an internship is always a great idea. The key is to maintain patience and have a balanced learning and contributing attitude that can ultimately bring positive results for both company and your professional development. Also, it is good to get in and take it as a challenge even if it seems difficult because, in the end, things that you have learned will be your own career asset.
What do you enjoy most about Australia?
I enjoy mixing up with people from different cultural backgrounds. I always feel motivated even if it is watching a Pelican taking a flight, exploring the Brisbane city life or attending a Business Event.
