Dynuk Devamulla - Architecture (Australia)“I am completing a 3 month internship at a small architecture firm in the suburb of Dandenong in Melbourne, Australia. Completing my masters during the COVID-19 pandemic was something I did not expect. As a result, my goals for starting my career were put on hold as the world dealt with a global pandemic. Applying to Australian Internships is a decision I am glad I made. I knew with their connections they would have the ability to help me start my career and now I am enjoying an internship where I am learning a lot.
As an intern, I have been getting first-hand experience of what it's like to work at an architectural firm. At the moment, I have been learning how to use ArchiCad and I have been learning a lot about building regulations and gaining a wealth of real world experience that compliments the design-oriented knowledge I acquired at university. I was always aware that what you learn in the classroom will always be different when you step into the real world and it's been made abundantly clear as I complete my internship. Through the completion of this internship, I have had the opportunity to acquire so much more knowledge and gained new connections that will help me greatly as I continue to develop my career. “ |
Alexandre Androutsopoulou - Architecture (Greek)Why did you decide to do your internship in Australia? It was a challenge for me to reach the other side of the world and get a firsthand professional experience by working at an Architectural firm with multi scale projects. I thought that spending 7 months in Australia would benefit my personal and professional growth and was totally right about it from day one. What made this experience unique and special? Getting familiar with the construction procedures and methods of Australia is definitely important for an architect’s development and helps to expand his professional competence. The environment itself on Gold Coast is unique since one can see the high rise buildings of the city centre next to amazing beaches that cover the east coast for many kilometres. How has this experience impacted your future? (personally, professionally, academically, etc.) I had the privilege to work in a multicultural environment and meet an ideal workplace. I experienced how it feels to be part of team working on multiple projects, having responsibilities, meeting deadlines, collaborating with other consultants and listening to the client’s needs and preferences at the same time. Practical knowledge gained day to day I am sure has strengthened my skills as a young professional |
Luis Felipe - Architecture (Brazil)"I’m feeling really happy and thankful for this opportunity to do an internship here in Sydney. What I am enjoying most is to see how an office work in a different country and get more experienced with it. Architecture in Australia is getting stronger and I find here that is open and flexible. My advice for future interns is: always be open-mind, try new things, make new friends, be responsible and try to learn as much as you can by being a proactive person. These opportunities don’t appear all the time so it’s important to grab it and enjoy a new experience. Thanks Australian Internship for being part of my journey in Australia and for helping me to get more mature and involved in the office/work environment." |
