Completing an internship is hard. Completing an international internship can be absolutely nerve-wracking. It is important to understand that if you are completing an international internship, nerves, insecurities and doubts are very normal. As an international intern, you are doing something remarkable by going overseas to better your career.

Getting into a workplace where language and culture is completely different can really shake a person’s self-confidence. Therefore, it is extremely important to be self-aware of your emotions, thoughts and insecurities. Australian Internships has created a list of ways to boost your confidence at work and avoid any of those negative thoughts you may have:

1- Permit yourself to accept that everybody has once felt the same. Remember you are not the first and not the last with this feeling. Having negatives thoughts will not save you from fear. Think positively.

2- Ask Questions, because when you explore the challenges you face, consequently get more involved, improving the knowledge. An incomplete message leads you to lack of confidence. Instead of being shy, be curious.

3- Set goals to help build self-confidence. Having achievable goals brings higher levels of motivation. This attitude helps you to defy your lack of self-assurance at work.

4- Participate in training sessions or team building activities. You learn to manage your anxiety levels, improve negotiation skills and boost your self-esteem.

5- Take additional steps to deliver a task instead of doing everything on an automatic mode. Create your own workflow makes you feel more confident in your deliveries.

If you complete these 5 steps and confide in your Internship Program Supervisor (IPS) than you will slowly start to build up your self-confidence and learn how to deal with your insecurities.
